The excuse i most often hear for not washing your car in the winter is just how cold your hands get. Yes i use it aswell because it is one of the most uncomfortable feelings i can imagine.
So for 49p in my local Home Bargins i bought a fetching pair of pink rubber washing up gloves.
Ok my hands did get cold but they where just cold not damp and cold, and they soon warmed up when i got inside. I really only had them on while i was using cold water.
They where not as great as i had imagined but definetly helped and if pink isn’t your colour or worried about looking as camp as Christmas, then you can always get some yellow ones.

The time has come where the brown box i have been carrying Polish, Carnauba Wax and other various Valeting supplies round in has come to the end of its life and its bit of a pain emptying it every time i finish a job and spend 15 minutes putting everything back in there places.
I spent a while trying to find a solution from various Detailing and valeting websites and the best i could find was the Meguiar,s Boot Organiser, it didn’t really meet my needs as i wanted so i could store the majority of my valeting products safely and neatly.
I then started looking at tool chests and found the Stanley Mobile Work Center which seemed to fit all my needs.

Stanley Mobile Work Center

My ever great plan was to store the Meguiar’s G220 DA machine polisher in the bottom and store my 1 litre bottles of polishes behind on the little shelve bit that is the wheel arch.
Then all my microfibres and wash mits in the top section and my brushes on the removable tray that sits in the top compartment.
Putting larger containers in such is the Meguiar’s Wheel Brightener and Dura Brite Sealant is silly but at least now they’ll be room for them on the shelve, and to be honest the Meguiars Wheel Brightener gets diluted into another bottle and the Dura Brite Sealant gets separated into a 1 litre bottle so really there’s no need to be carrying them about.

Stanley Mobile Work Center Bottom Compartment

Easily big enough for my Meguiar’s G220 and 4/5 bottles of car polish on the shelve.

Stanley Mobile Work Center Top Compartment

Today was the day i was informed i had to sort all my car valeting / detailing products out so i wheeled out my new storage and was quick suprised how well it held everything.
G220 in the bottom with D handle on but no backing plate. was nice and snug so it wont be rattling around, anyway check out the photos below

Stanley Mobile Work Center Bottom Compartment Full

After looking at hte picture if i’d of turned the Auto Glym bottle on its side, i would probably of got antoehr two bottles on there but it is pretty much full and house’s what i need.

The first of my purchases was this Telescopic Tripod 500W Site Light from Screwfix.

Telescopic Tripod 500W Site Light

After using 2 of these when i was doing some Paint Correction on a friends Vauxhall Astra T8 and It made spotting paint defects a lot easier and you weren’t bobbing and weaving up and down the cars panel all the time to check for locations of swirl marks and it is possible to do work undercover even if light is poor.
The Site Light cost me £20 delivered next day which is a great price since local building suppilers such as MKM and Travis Purkins where selling them at £28.
Theres a switch on the back of each lamp which enablews you to turn it on or off which is great if you only want one light on. Each 500w lamp swivels side to side and will also tilt up and down which is a great idea if you want to spread the light beam out
Since i’d pretty much built the lights in the living room i thought i’d try and capture how good they are.
Below is just the room illuminated by our normal light (With no flash)

Room Light

Now with the Room light out and both Lights turned on

Telescopic Tripod 500W Site Light Both On

Now just one on you can see the difference near the curtain

Telescopic Tripod 500W Site Light One On

Overall i’m really impressed with the build quality and illumination that the lights give, but thats in my living room hopefully i’ll get to try them out on Saturday.

Update: 21/12/2008

I used the Tripod 500W Site Light on Saturday for aobut 5 hours with out any problems at all. and it was nice to be able to turn one of the lamps off and just work with the one lamp lit. These definetly where a bargin buy and i dont know how i have managed with out them. Oh and there great at warming your hands up in this cold weather.
